Hubballi Man Kills Woman After Marriage Proposal Rejection; Police Arrest Accused

The Karnataka Police arrested a 22-year-old man, Girish alias Vishwa, on Friday for the murder of a young woman, Anjali Ambiger (20). The incident occurred at the victim’s home in Veerapur Oni, Hubballi, on Wednesday. The accused allegedly stabbed Anjali multiple times after she rejected his marriage proposal. He then fled the scene and was subsequently arrested by the police on Thursday night.

According to Hubli Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar, the accused sustained severe facial and head injuries during his arrest and will receive medical treatment before being taken into custody for further investigation. He was reportedly on his way from Bangalore to Goa and intended to proceed to Mumbai. The accused claimed that the victim’s blocking of his communications enraged him, but the police are investigating his version of events.

The victim’s family has alleged that they had previously reported the accused’s threats to the police. They claim that the accused had threatened to kill Anjali in a similar manner to Neha Hiremath, a 23-year-old college student who was stabbed to death by her former classmate in Hubballi on April 18. The family alleges that the police did not take their complaints seriously.

In April, Neha Hiremath was allegedly stabbed to death by her former classmate, Fayaz Khodunaik, on the campus of KLE Technological University in Hubballi Dharwad, where she was a first-year MCA student. The police arrested Fayaz within hours of the incident and produced him before a magistrate, who sent him to 14-day judicial custody. The CID later took Fayaz’s custody and brought him to Hubballi from Dharwad.

Following the murder of Anjali Ambiger, a police inspector and a woman head constable have been suspended for dereliction of duty. The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of women in Hubballi and has highlighted the need for prompt and effective response from law enforcement agencies to reports of threats and harassment.
