On April 23rd, the RNLI brought several hundred migrants to shore in Dover, Kent, after they crossed the English Channel in seven boats. This number included 57 individuals who were intercepted by the French navy and escorted to British shores, following the tragic deaths of five people, including a young girl, on an overcrowded dinghy. French investigators reported that the dinghy, carrying 112 migrants, appeared to be in difficulty off the coast of Wimereaux, Pas-de-Calais, and a patrol boat was deployed to assist. Despite efforts to resuscitate six unconscious individuals, five of them, including a woman, three men, and a seven-year-old girl, died. The remaining 47 passengers were rescued and brought to shore, while the 57 who remained on board were escorted to the UK after their boat became operational again. This incident comes amid ongoing concerns about the migrant crisis and the dangerous attempts people are making to cross the Channel in small boats.
