David Pecker, the former chairman of the National Enquirer’s parent company, is poised to testify as a key witness in Donald Trump’s hush-money trial. His testimony is expected to provide crucial evidence against the former president, potentially undermining his defense.
Pecker is alleged to have been involved in efforts to cover up payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 US election. According to reports, he was in contact with Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, after Daniels approached them in 2016.
Experts believe Pecker’s testimony could be highly damaging to Trump’s case. He may testify that Trump not only knew about the hush-money scheme but also endorsed it, particularly in relation to suppressing negative stories about his alleged extramarital affairs.
As one of the few individuals who directly communicated with Trump about the scheme, Pecker’s testimony could be instrumental in establishing Trump’s intent and knowledge. He is said to have evidence of a visit to the White House in 2017 where Trump thanked Pecker for his assistance during the campaign.
This hush-money trial is just one of several criminal cases against Trump. He also faces charges related to retaining classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate and allegations of attempting to overturn his election defeat in Georgia and inciting the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot.
