Huw Edwards Resigns as Top BBC Anchor Amidst Pay-for-Images Scandal

Huw Edwards, the BBC’s highest-earning and longest-serving anchor, has resigned from his position at the helm of News at Ten due to health issues. Edwards had been off-air since last July amid allegations that he paid a young person for explicit images. His wife, Vicky Flind, publicly identified him as the unnamed presenter at the center of the allegations last year, disclosing that he had been hospitalized for severe mental health problems.

The allegations were investigated by the Metropolitan Police, but no charges were brought against Edwards due to a lack of evidence of a criminal offense. Edwards has been with BBC News since 1984, covering major events such as the 2019 General Election and the death of Queen Elizabeth II. He was also the lead presenter for the King’s Coronation last May.

“After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors,” the BBC said in a statement. “The BBC has accepted his resignation, which it believes will allow all parties to move forward. We do not believe it appropriate to comment further.”

Several candidates have been mentioned as potential replacements for Edwards, including Clive Myrie, Kirsty Wark, Sophie Raworth, Fiona Bruce, Victoria Derbyshire, and Nicky Campbell.
