Itoje and current England captain George have agreed on new deals with the Gallagher Premiership champions, with the understanding that their salaries would be supplemented by the RFU. The RFU announced plans last year to introduce approximately 25 hybrid deals worth around £150,000 each, with clubs covering the remaining salary costs. However, Itoje and George are the only players to have received such contracts so far. Saracens’ McCall stated that an agreement has been reached in principle between the players, the club, and the RFU. However, no contracts have been signed by the players to date. McCall emphasized the importance of resolving the situation promptly for all parties involved. The RFU maintains that the hybrid contracts are on track for implementation later this year, with a spokesperson indicating that announcements regarding enhanced elite player squad contracts are expected in the autumn. England’s 2024 summer tour includes a Test in Japan on June 22, followed by matches in New Zealand on July 6 and July 13.
