The Telangana excise department conducted a raid on a Hyderabad eatery on Friday, uncovering a shocking operation involving the sale of whiskey-laced ice cream. The raid, conducted by the Excise Enforcement team, led to the seizure of nearly 12 kilograms of this unusual dessert and the arrest of several individuals involved in the illicit operation.
Upon arrival at the Cafe Ice Cream Parlour in Jubilee Hills, the probe agency discovered that the outlet was openly selling ice cream infused with alcohol. Their investigation revealed that the proprietors, identified as Dayakar Reddy and Shobhan, were mixing 60 milliliters of whiskey into each kilogram of ice cream, marking up the price considerably. To attract more customers, the accused had even advertised their product on social media.
The police seized 23 cartons of ice cream, totaling 11.5 kilograms, and registered a case against the accused. Further investigations are ongoing.
In a separate raid conducted on Thursday, the excise department confiscated non-duty-paid liquor worth ₹ 3.85 lakhs from the RTC Cross Roads area of Hyderabad. The accused, identified as Gopal Agrawal, had transported the liquor from Chandigarh in a vehicle before attempting to sell it in Hyderabad at a much higher price.
According to a press statement from the Excise Department, Agrawal had purchased the liquor in Chandigarh for ₹ 1.32 lakhs and intended to sell it in Hyderabad for ₹ 4 lakhs, aiming to make a substantial profit. The department is continuing its investigation into this incident as well.
