In a significant development for Indian football, Hyderabad FC, the reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champions, will be under new ownership. Current owner Varun Tripuraneni announced his decision to step down, paving the way for a new business conglomerate to take the reins of the club.
In a statement released on Sunday, Tripuraneni reflected on the challenges and triumphs of his tenure, stating that the journey since the club’s inception had been immensely demanding. “With issues beyond our control arising, we still fought on, extremely hard, trying to do our best. This, over the years, has taken a massive mental toll on me and everyone involved. The time has come now to exit and for the new owners to move in,” he said.
Tripuraneni expressed pride in establishing a top-flight club in Hyderabad, a city with a rich footballing heritage. “After a tough first season, we went on to be a dominant club in the ISL, a club which caught the attention of all football fans for our style of play, the youngsters coming through the ranks. The title win in March 2022 was a proud moment for the sporting fans in the city,” he explained.
He extended his gratitude to head coach Manolo Marquez, who has now transitioned to leading the Indian national team. “It is also a proud moment that Manolo is now the head coach of the Indian team, a role he will excel in, without a doubt. I would also like to thank Thangboi Singto, a person I have worked closely over the years. He has been one of my biggest support and a go-to person at any point of time,” he said.
Tripuraneni acknowledged the unwavering support of the players, coaches, staff, and management during difficult times. “During the tough times, our players, coaches, support staff, and management team all stood by me and this team spirit was what made us a successful club over three seasons,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation for the contributions of all players, including those who did not receive a formal farewell from the club due to various circumstances. “I would also like to thank Raja Daggubati (film star) who supported the Club unconditionally whenever it was required. A special thank you to other partners and investors for their constant support,” he said.
Tripuraneni concluded his statement by thanking ISL chairperson Nita Ambani for providing the opportunity to establish Hyderabad FC in India’s premier football league. He also expressed his gratitude to family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support throughout the journey.
The new ownership is expected to take the club to new heights, building upon the solid foundation laid by Tripuraneni and his team. The fans will be hoping for a seamless transition as Hyderabad FC continues to be a force in Indian football.
