In a bid to maintain law and order, the Hyderabad Police have issued prohibitory orders on processions, protests, and public meetings in the city until November 28. The move comes in the wake of recent incidents of unrest and the potential for further disturbances.
The notification, issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, states that gatherings of five or more persons, processions, dharnas, rallies, or public meetings are not permitted within the city limits. This measure aims to prevent any escalation of tensions and ensure the safety of citizens.
The decision to impose these restrictions was taken after the police received credible information suggesting that certain organizations and political parties were planning to disrupt public peace and order through protests and demonstrations. The notification, issued under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (formerly known as Section 144 of the CrPC), aims to preemptively address these potential threats.
While the order prohibits most public gatherings, it does allow peaceful dharnas and protests at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. Any other protests or dharnas in Hyderabad and Secunderabad are not permitted.
The order, which came into effect at 6 pm on October 27, will remain in force until 6 pm on November 28. It exempts police officials and military personnel on duty, bonafide funeral processions, the Education Department’s flying squad, and individuals or groups duly exempted by the competent authority.
The Hyderabad Police have made it clear that anyone violating the order, especially around the Secretariat and other sensitive areas, will face legal action under appropriate penal provisions. This move comes after a recent incident where around 15 police personnel were injured during a protest in Secunderabad against the alleged desecration of an idol at Goddess Muthyalamma temple. The police are taking a proactive approach to prevent any similar incidents from occurring.
The Hyderabad Police are urging citizens to cooperate and comply with the order to maintain peace and order in the city. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents during this time.
