A group of Hyderabad-based tourists faced a harrowing experience when their car plunged into a water-logged stream in Kerala’s Kuruppanthara. The incident occurred late Friday night as the four-member group, including a woman, were driving to Alappuzha.
According to Kerala police, the road the tourists were traveling on was submerged due to heavy rainfall. Using Google Maps to navigate, the tourists drove into the flooded stream, unaware of the danger.
Thankfully, all four tourists managed to escape their submerging vehicle unharmed. Nearby police officers and residents rushed to their aid, but unfortunately, the car was completely submerged.
This incident is not the first of its kind in Kerala. In October last year, two young doctors tragically lost their lives in a car accident after following Google Maps directions and falling into a river.
In response, Kerala police have issued cautionary guidelines for using navigation apps during the monsoon season. Similar incidents have also occurred in other parts of India and around the world, raising concerns about the reliability of such apps in extreme weather conditions.
Authorities urge caution when relying on navigation apps and emphasize the importance of being aware of road conditions, especially in unfamiliar areas.
