Hygiene Dispute Leads to Potential Divorce in Uttar Pradesh

A peculiar case of differing hygiene standards has led to a potential divorce in Uttar Pradesh, India. The newly married couple finds themselves on the brink of separation due to the husband’s aversion to frequent bathing. According to reports, the man, named Rajesh, prefers to shower only once or twice a month, choosing to cleanse himself with Gangajal (water from the Ganges River) once a week. Despite his wife’s pleas, he has only increased his bathing frequency to six times a month.

His infrequent bathing has resulted in an unpleasant body odor, causing his wife to become increasingly uncomfortable. Fed up with the situation, she approached a family counseling center in Agra, expressing her inability to continue living with her husband due to his poor hygiene. The issue escalated further when an altercation between the couple led to the wife moving back to her parents’ home. Her family subsequently filed a police complaint against her husband’s family, accusing them of dowry harassment and seeking a divorce.

The police attempted to mediate the situation, and the husband agreed to improve his hygiene practices. However, the wife remains resolute in her decision, refusing to reconcile with her husband. The couple is scheduled to appear at the counseling center next week for further discussions regarding their future.
