A chilling incident of robbery involving alleged hypnosis has sent shockwaves through Jaipur. On October 24th, a woman was targeted at her residence in Samridhi Apartment, becoming the latest victim of a growing trend across India.
The two suspects, identified as Jasvir alias Sonu (34) and Dimple Singh (30), gained access to the residential society under the guise of donation collectors. As the unsuspecting woman stepped out of her flat, they allegedly used hypnotic techniques to subdue her before fleeing with her valuable gold chain and ring.
The police, aided by CCTV footage, swiftly apprehended the culprits. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Digant Anand confirmed the arrests and the recovery of the stolen gold chain. This incident underscores the alarming rise of hypnosis-based robberies, where criminals exploit the power of suggestion to gain an advantage over their victims.
In a similar incident in Delhi back in September, a man was allegedly hypnotized and robbed of ₹ 98,000 by three individuals he had befriended on social media. The perpetrators, identified as Vinay (24), Naveen (24), Rohit (24) and Akash (22), employed a similar modus operandi, luring their victim into a trap and robbing him of his money.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of being vigilant against potential threats, especially when interacting with strangers. While the use of hypnosis in criminal activities may seem outlandish, it is a reality that authorities and the public alike need to acknowledge and address. The recent cases highlight the need for increased awareness and caution, particularly for vulnerable individuals who may be more susceptible to such tactics.
