Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao continues his efforts to attract international investment to the south Indian state. During a recent trip to Seoul, South Korea, he met with officials from Hyundai Motor Company, a global automotive giant. The meeting resulted in a significant commitment from Hyundai, who announced plans to establish a large Mega Test Center in Telangana.
This facility will be built by Hyundai Motor India Engineering (HMIE), a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor. The Mega Test Center will include an automated test track facility and a state-of-the-art test car manufacturing facility, including for electric vehicles (EVs). The project is expected to attract other affiliates and suppliers to set up their facilities in the vicinity, creating both direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Hyundai’s decision to invest in Telangana is a testament to the state’s business-friendly policies and its commitment to creating a world-class infrastructure. The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s “industry-friendly policies, progressive and futuristic vision in creating a world-class infrastructure and providing hassle-free permission systems” as key factors in attracting investment.
In addition to the Mega Test Center, Hyundai also announced plans to expand, renovate, and modernize its existing engineering center in Hyderabad. These expansion plans are aimed at creating more employment opportunities for both India and the Asia-Pacific region.
Hyundai Motor emphasized the importance of India as a market, stating that it is “committed” to developing benchmark setting products and technologies for Indian customers. The company expressed gratitude to the Telangana Chief Minister for providing the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art testing facilities.
This investment from Hyundai further strengthens Telangana’s position as a hub for automotive manufacturing and research. The Mega Test Center is expected to play a key role in promoting the development and adoption of electric vehicles in India, contributing to the country’s efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals.
