Hyundai’s Casper Electric SUV Begins Production in South Korea

Full-fledged production of Hyundai Motor’s highly anticipated all-electric mini SUV, Casper Electric, will commence in South Korea’s southwestern city of Gwangju later this month. Industry officials have confirmed that the target output for the year is set at 21,400 units.

The EV will be marketed as ‘Inster’ in overseas markets. Its global launch will begin in South Korea this summer, followed by a rollout in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Gwangju Global Motors (GGM), a contract manufacturer for Hyundai Motor based in Gwangju, situated approximately 270 kilometers southwest of Seoul, has announced that full-scale production of the Casper Electric will commence on July 15. GGM has revealed that their production target for the year is currently set at 21,400 units, representing a 23% increase from their initial target of 17,400 units.

The plant has been engaged in trial production of the Casper Electric since February, producing around 300 units thus far, according to Yonhap news agency. Unveiled at the ‘2024 Busan International Motor Show’ held last month, the Casper Electric is the electrified version of the original Casper, first introduced in 2021, featuring a range of significant improvements.

The Casper Electric is equipped with a 49kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery, enabling a driving range of up to 315 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle boasts a rapid charging capability, reaching 80% charge from 10% in just 30 minutes.
