Iberia Introduces Airbus A321XLR, Enriching Long-Haul Fleet

Iberia is poised to introduce the new Airbus aircraft, with the imminent arrival of the first A321XLR in the market by the end of the summer. This addition will fortify Iberia’s long-haul fleet, presenting a more sustainable and innovative approach by enabling transoceanic routes with a narrow-body aircraft. The incorporation of the A321XLR will enhance Iberia’s destination network, particularly in the Americas. With increased range capabilities and improved fleet efficiency, this aircraft is expected to inaugurate its long-haul service with flights to Washington DC and Boston, before expanding further.

The A321XLR offers a groundbreaking solution by delivering long-haul flights in a single-aisle configuration without compromising on premium services, mirroring the experience provided by wider aircraft in Iberia’s fleet such as the A330s and A350s. Featuring 182 seats in Business and Economy classes, the aircraft boasts various enhancements for passenger comfort, including larger overhead compartments, customizable cabin lighting, and an innovative entrance panel. In the Business cabin, passengers can expect individual window seats with direct aisle access, ‘full flat’ beds, ample storage, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems. The Economy cabin seats, provided by the latest Recaro model, offer increased recline and additional storage options. Passengers across all cabins can enjoy Bluetooth connectivity for personal devices, improved USB charging ports, and complimentary Wi-Fi for messaging throughout the flight.

Aligned with Iberia’s sustainability goals, the A321XLR operates long-haul flights with approximately 30% less fuel consumption compared to wider aircraft models, contributing to emissions reduction efforts. Following its introduction, the first A321XLR will be joined by seven additional aircraft, facilitating Iberia’s expansion into new long-haul destinations and bolstering capacity in existing markets.
