Iberia has launched the latest edition of its cadet program in partnership with the esteemed aviation school, FTEJerez (Flight Training Europe). This marks the fourth edition of the successful program, which aims to promote the piloting profession among young people and assist them in financing their training with interest-free loans covering about 50% of the costs. Upon completion of their training, Iberia ensures that the cadets have smoother entry into the job market, assisting them with the repayment of the financial aid received.
To date, 48 students have enrolled in the Iberia Cadets program. Nineteen pilots from the inaugural batch now work for Iberia, and another 13 from the second batch will join them this coming June. Currently, 16 cadets are training at FTEJerez, with eight more expected to start in late 2024.
Óscar Sordo, CEO of FTEJerez, expressed honor in Iberia’s continued trust in the school to train its next generation of pilots. He stated that the new call for candidates not only recognizes the success of the Iberia Cadets programme, launched for the first time in 2017, but also reflects the constant growth of the sector and the promising future of the industry.
The program, a result of the collaboration between Iberia and FTEJerez, selects candidates for a training course leading to an ATPL air transport license. Iberia monitors the trainees’ performance and development throughout their training.
This year, Iberia has hired over 30 new pilots to accommodate its growth across all markets and to rejuvenate its pilot roster.
