The global events industry is set to receive a significant boost as IBTM World’s Forum for Advocacy gears up for its upcoming session. This vital forum, held in collaboration with The Business of Events, will take place on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at the Torre Melia Gran Melia Hotel in Barcelona.
The forum will prioritize enhancing the communication of the events industry’s economic and social significance, ensuring a clear understanding of its valuable contributions to the global economy and communities. It will also delve into identifying critical areas requiring additional support, paving the way for a more robust and sustainable future.
With backing from leading organizations such as PCMA, ICCA, the Events Industry Council, and The Strategic Alliance of the National Convention Bureaux of Europe, alongside the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC), City Destinations Alliance, and The Iceberg, the forum is poised to be a driving force for positive change.
A gathering of senior leaders, policymakers, and industry influencers, the Forum for Advocacy promises to be a dynamic and impactful event. The opening ceremony, led by IBTM World Exhibition Director Claudia Hall, will set the stage for IBTM World’s 20th anniversary celebrations, which will follow the next day.
The agenda features a compelling line-up of speakers. Sherrif Karamat, President and CEO of PCMA, will deliver a keynote address, highlighting the industry’s crucial role and purpose. Sarah Fleming, Managing Director of SFA Connect, will present insights from the latest Global Destination Report, providing valuable data and analysis for the industry.
Eloísa Urrutia, Head of Global Sustainability Meetings & Events at American Express Global Business Travel, and Christoph Tessmar, Director of the Barcelona Convention Bureau, will delve into how business events can effectively mitigate over-tourism and climate challenges while simultaneously benefiting local economies.
