Summer might be fleeting, but when the sun shines, an ice cream is a must. However, with rising costs, a recent study by Which? reveals just how much these beloved treats have become more expensive.
For fans of the Cornetto Trilogy, those iconic strawberry and classic cones have seen the biggest price hikes since July 2022. A six-pack of strawberry Cornettos has increased from £2.57 to £3.55, a whopping 38% increase. The classic Cornetto flavor has also experienced a significant rise, jumping from £2.57 to £3.48, representing a 35% increase.
Soleros follow closely behind with a 35% increase for a box of three fruity lollies, going from £2.03 to £2.75. Meanwhile, a four-pack of the nutty chocolate Feast has risen by 29%, from £2.42 to £3.11.
Interestingly, the study also found that some supermarket dupes performed better in blind taste tests than the originals. Aldi’s Gianni’s Tropico Exotic Fruit Lollies, priced at £1.35 for three, received a satisfaction score of 76%, outperforming the more expensive Solero which scored 70%. This suggests a viable alternative for ice cream lovers looking to avoid the hefty prices of name brands.
The study confirms what many consumers already know: ice cream prices are soaring. With increased costs across the board, it’s no surprise that even simple summer treats are experiencing price hikes. So, the next time the sun appears, take a closer look at the prices before filling your freezer with your favorite frozen treats.
