Iceland Expands Its £1 Range to Help Customers Struggling Amidst Cost-of-Living Crisis

With the ongoing rise in food prices, people across the UK are looking for affordable ways to feed themselves and their families. Iceland supermarket has emerged as a beacon of hope, offering a wide range of products for just £1 in partnership with The Food Warehouse. Recently, they expanded their £1 range with 50 new items, including ready meals and frozen pizzas, bringing the total number of such products to 750. Iceland’s £1 range has been widely praised by shoppers, who have expressed their gratitude for the retailer’s efforts in helping those who are struggling to put food on the table.

Sandra Rowley, in a post on Facebook, stated that the range, along with Iceland’s ’10 for a tenner’ promotion, will be a lifesaver for many people who are facing financial difficulties. Carol Quelch hailed it as a ‘fab range,’ while Alice Mercer highlighted its convenience for those living alone on a budget and those seeking quick and inexpensive meal options. Leslie Greenhalgh emphasized the range’s benefits for struggling families, noting its potential to save on gas and electricity costs associated with everyday cooking.

The current top 10 best-selling items from Iceland’s £1 range include lasagne, thin pepperoni pizza, thin cheese pizza, chicken curry and rice, spaghetti bolognese, thin and crispy cheese and ham pizza, mini hash brown bites, mac and cheese, potato pops, and toad in the hole. Lasagne reigns supreme as the most popular item, earning rave reviews on Iceland’s website for its ‘good value,’ ‘delicious taste,’ and ‘generous portion size.’

Richard Walker, executive chairman of Iceland Foods, expressed his delight in the company’s ability to assist customers during this challenging financial period by providing affordable pricing options. He emphasized that contrary to popular belief, the cost-of-living crisis is not abating, highlighting the ongoing need for affordable food options. He further stated that the expansion of the £1 range is a direct response to the surge in demand for budget-friendly meals.

Courtney Pochin, Metro’s specialist food writer, sampled several of Iceland’s £1 meals and shared her top picks. She highly recommends the beans and cheese with potatoes and mini sausages, praising its versatility as a hearty meal suitable for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. While lasagne remains the most popular £1 meal, Pochin surprisingly preferred the vegetarian version, citing its flavorful blend of peppers, tomato, and spinach. She also suggests adding vegetables to enhance the dish. The pasta with cheese sauce, according to Pochin, is a simple yet satisfying meal that can be easily customized with meat, vegetables, or salad.

Beyond its affordable food options, Iceland has also launched its own HOME range, featuring essential household items such as washing-up liquid, antibacterial surface wipes, and fabric conditioner, all priced at £1 or less. The supermarket has also lent its support to Metro’s Formula For Change campaign, which aims to reduce the cost of formula milk for customers. Richard Walker explained that the company was prompted to take action after hearing disturbing stories of customers diluting or skipping feeds, which can have detrimental effects on babies. Iceland has since slashed formula milk prices and introduced two new formula milks at even lower prices.

Iceland’s efforts to provide affordable options for its customers have been widely recognized and appreciated. The supermarket’s commitment to helping those in need is evident in its expanded £1 range, the launch of its HOME range, and its support for Metro’s Formula For Change campaign. As the cost-of-living crisis continues, Iceland’s affordable offerings provide a lifeline for many struggling families and individuals.
