Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson Wins GOP Primary, to Face Democrat Roth in November
Thirteen-term Republican Congressman Mike Simpson has secured his party’s nomination once again in Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District. Simpson’s political career spans decades, starting with his time on the Blackfoot City Council in 1980.
Simpson has represented the district since the late 1990s and has consistently won re-election. His primary win this year comes after he broke with some Republicans on issues like the Jan. 6 investigation and the 2020 election recount.
Despite these divisions, Simpson emerged victorious in the GOP primary with 55% of the vote. He will now face unopposed Democrat David Roth in the November general election.
Simpson’s primary win is a testament to his strong support in the district. He has consistently worked to address the needs of his constituents and has built a reputation as a pragmatic and effective legislator.
The general election in November will be a closely watched race. Roth is a newcomer to politics but has the support of the Democratic Party. Simpson will need to continue to campaign hard to maintain his seat in Congress.
