IEEE SustainTech Leadership Forum to Discuss Sustainable Practices in Built Environment

The IEEE Computer Society (CS) has announced keynotes for its upcoming IEEE SustainTech Leadership Forum, which will be held on August 27-28, 2024 at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego, California. The forum will explore the latest environmentally friendly technologies to be applied in the built environment, with a particular focus on how artificial intelligence (AI), big data, computer vision, blockchain, and other technologies can be used to support sustainable practices for factories and businesses.

The forum will feature keynotes from some of the largest commercial organizations working towards sustainable practices, including Mitsubishi and Panasonic. Anthony Vetro, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating that it is no longer a desirable option but a necessity. He highlighted the opportunity for businesses and manufacturers to contribute significantly to sustainability through innovative practices such as waste reduction and resource efficiency, ultimately creating a better future for people and the planet.

Murphy will discuss the importance of transparency and collaboration in achieving sustainability goals on Tuesday, August 27 at 1:15 p.m. PDT.

Aravind Padmanabhan, Executive VP and CTO of Nvent:

Padmanabhan will speak about innovation for product sustainability and making data centers greener on Wednesday, August 28 at 9:00 a.m. PDT.

These talks will address how innovative and integrated solutions can contribute to carbon neutrality, improve quality of life, and ensure a safer world. Jyotika Athavale, 2024 IEEE CS President, highlighted the potential of sustainable AI to drastically reduce technology’s environmental impact.
