Before the Rangers’ 4-3 victory over the Capitals in Game 2 of the NHL playoffs at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, goaltender Igor Shesterkin shared a heartwarming moment with his 1-year-old son, Timofey. As the Rangers warmed up, Timofey, wearing a blue cap and a Rangers bomber jacket with Shesterkin and the No. 31 on the back, watched his father from down by the ice, held up by his mother, Anna Butusova. As Shesterkin came into view, Timofey smiled and banged on the glass, seemingly urging his father to get back into the net. Shesterkin acknowledged his son with a nod and skated away. This is not the first time that Shesterkin and Timofey have shared a viral moment at a Rangers game. During a February game, the two shared a cute moment where Timofey had also ordered his dad back to the net, to which Shesterkin complied. And in November, the two went viral after a video was posted to Instagram of Shesterkin playing goal while playing floor hockey with his son. The Rangers, who are now up 2-0 in the series, finished the season with a 55-23-4 record and are looking to advance past the first round after they had been knocked out of the postseason by the Devils in the opening round last season.
