## IHG Announces First voco Hotel on Sunshine Coast, Expanding Hospitality Landscape

The Sunshine Coast is set to welcome a new era of luxury hospitality with the arrival of the first voco hotel in the region. IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in the hospitality industry, has joined forces with Sydney’s Felix Capital to bring the

to life. This exciting development is set to open its doors in 2028, injecting a fresh wave of upscale accommodation into the vibrant Ocean Street precinct.

The new voco Maroochydore will boast 153 thoughtfully designed rooms, each offering expansive water views and a stylish, inviting aesthetic. Guests will be treated to a blend of lifestyle and local inspiration, reflecting the unique charm of the Sunshine Coast. But the hotel’s appeal extends far beyond its comfortable rooms.

A Vibrant Hub for Leisure and Business

The hotel will feature a dynamic dining and entertainment offering, perfectly complementing the lively social scene of Maroochydore. Foodies will delight in the 140-seat specialty restaurant and the 65-seat lobby bar, both located on the ground floor and easily accessible from the bustling Ocean Street.

Wellness is also a key focus, with the hotel providing an outdoor pool on a scenic podium level, a rejuvenating spa, and a tranquil sauna – a perfect oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation.

For corporate events and celebrations, the voco Maroochydore offers over 510 square meters of modern conference and event spaces, including a spacious ballroom accommodating up to 250 guests. With its comprehensive offerings, the hotel promises to be a premier destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) business and tourism on the Sunshine Coast.

A Strategic Partnership for Growth

The development of voco Maroochydore reflects the growing demand for premium full-service hotels on the Sunshine Coast. It aligns with the local council’s Temporary Local Planning Instrument proposal, which aims to attract four- and five-star hotel options to the region.

Cameron Burke, Director of Development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed his enthusiasm: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the Sunshine Coast. The region desperately needs new accommodation product, and hotel developments like voco Maroochydore will play a vital role in stimulating the local economy.” He further highlighted the importance of expanding IHG’s presence in the region, especially with the upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon.

Michael Maroun, CEO and founder of Felix Capital, echoed Burke’s sentiments, emphasizing the project’s potential to create hundreds of new jobs and showcase the unique attractions of Maroochydore. “The voco brand is a perfect fit for what is set to be a vivid lifestyle destination on the Sunshine Coast, at a time of significant need for new hotels in the region.” He further explained the collaborative effort with Sunshine Coast Council to ensure alignment with their proposed Temporary Local Planning Instruments, catering to both leisure and business needs.

A Destination for Relaxation and Adventure

The mixed-use development will also include nine luxury residences, offering exclusive, standalone spaces separate from the hotel’s operations. Located just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane, voco Maroochydore provides a convenient base for exploring the Sunshine Coast’s many attractions, from pristine beaches and lush rainforests to vibrant markets and charming coastal towns.

The hotel’s commitment to providing a welcoming and personalized experience is reflected in the voco brand itself. Derived from the Latin word meaning “to invite,” voco hotels are renowned for their inviting atmosphere, thoughtful details like cozy beds, luxurious bathroom products, fast Wi-Fi, and vibrant social spaces.

The voco Maroochydore is the latest addition to IHG’s growing Premium portfolio in Australia, joining a pipeline that includes voco Gosford, set to open in 2025. This development also marks the second collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital, following their 2024 announcement of the upcoming Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.

With its exceptional amenities, prime location, and commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience, the voco Maroochydore is poised to become a prominent destination on the Sunshine Coast, attracting visitors from Queensland, the rest of Australia, and beyond. The hotel promises to play a significant role in the region’s continued growth and development, solidifying its position as a vibrant hub for tourism, business, and leisure.
