IIT Madras Tops NIRF 2024 Rankings in Overall and Engineering Categories

The Ministry of Education announced the results of the ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 on August 12, 2024. This year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras emerged as a frontrunner, securing the top spot in both the overall and engineering categories. This achievement marks a significant milestone for IIT Madras, as it is the sixth time the institute has topped the overall category and the ninth time it has led the engineering category.

Beyond these top rankings, IIT Madras demonstrated exceptional performance across other categories. The institute secured the second spot in both the Research and Innovation categories, highlighting its strength in these areas. The NIRF rankings are based on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PER).

NIRF Ranking 2024: Key Highlights

The ninth edition of NIRF, released on Monday, saw a significant increase in participation, with 10,845 higher education institutions participating in 2024 compared to 3,565 in 2016. The rankings now encompass sixteen categories and subject domains, a notable expansion from the four categories in 2016.
