The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions across ten states for Friday, May 31. Yellow alerts have been issued for Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
According to a weather department bulletin, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, as well as isolated pockets of Jharkhand and Odisha. IMD predicts that heatwave conditions will gradually subside over Northwest and Central India from May 31.
The weather department has also noted that hot and humid weather is expected to prevail over isolated pockets of Konkan & Goa during May 30th-June 1st, and Gangetic West Bengal on May 30th & 31st, 2024.
IMD has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall over the Northeastern states. The weather bulletin states that isolated heavy/very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on May 30th & 31st, 2024.
