IMD Issues Red Alerts for Heavy Rainfall Across India, Delhi Braces for Very Heavy Rains

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 30th, and for Arunachal Pradesh until July 1st. The national capital Delhi, currently experiencing heavy rainfall after a prolonged heatwave, is also predicted to receive very heavy rainfall until July 4th, according to the IMD’s orange alert for the city.

The IMD forecasts rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat State in the next five days. Rainfall is also predicted over Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Telangana, North and South Interior Karnataka during the same period.

Very heavy rainfall is expected over Saurashtra and Kutch on July 1st, and over the Gujarat region from July 2nd to 4th. Similar conditions are expected in the ghat areas of Maharashtra on July 2nd and 4th, and over Konkan and Goa on July 2nd and 3rd.

The IMD predicts very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka on June 30th and July 1st, over Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana on June 30th, and over Coastal Karnataka from June 30th to July 3rd. Very heavy rainfall is also forecast over Saurashtra and Kutch on June 30th, and over the Gujarat region and Maharashtra on June 30th and July 1st.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Punjab on June 30th, and July 3rd and 4th. Delhi will also experience heavy rainfall from July 1st to 3rd, while Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 4th. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh on July 3rd and 4th, East Rajasthan from July 2nd to 4th, and West Madhya Pradesh on June 30th and July 4th.

The IMD has also issued rainfall alerts for east Madhya Pradesh on June 30th, and July 3rd and 4th. Very heavy rainfall is forecast over Himachal Pradesh from June 30th to July 2nd, Uttarakhand from June 30th to July 4th, and Punjab on July 1st and 2nd. Very heavy rainfall is also predicted over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh from June 30th to July 3rd. Similar conditions are expected in east Rajasthan from June 30th to July 1st.

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 30th. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will witness very heavy rainfall on July 1st and 3rd. Similar conditions are expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura from June 30th to July 4th, and over Bihar from June 30th to July 2nd.

The IMD predicts very heavy rainfall over Odisha on June 30th, over Gangetic West Bengal on June 30th and July 3rd, and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 3rd and 5th. Similar conditions are likely to prevail over Jharkhand from June 30th to July 3rd, over Bihar on July 3rd and 4th, and over Chhattisgarh from June 30th to July 4th.

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for extremely heavy rainfall in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South West Delhi, South-East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, Faridabad, East Delhi, and Ghaziabad from July 1st to 3rd. Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted to prevail in these areas until July 3rd. The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on June 30th, and July 4th in all parts of Delhi.

The IMD has issued a moderate flash flood risk warning over several watersheds and neighborhoods of Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe Met Sub-divisions for the next 24 hours.
