IMD Predicts Heatwave, Heavy Rainfall, and Monsoon Progress in India

Heatwave Predictions

– Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur in isolated or some pockets of West Rajasthan from May 16 to 19, Punjab, South Haryana from May 16 to 19, North Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar from May 17 to 19, 2024.
– Severe heatwave conditions are also very likely in isolated or some parts of West Rajasthan from May 17 to 19, Punjab, and South Haryana on May 18 and 19, East Rajasthan on May 19, 2024.
– Heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Gujarat Region during May 16-17, Konkan on May 16, Saurashtra and Kutch on May 16 and 17, Delhi, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha on May 18 and 19, 2024.

Rainfall Predictions

– Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka from May 16 to 19, and North Interior Karnataka on May 16, 2024.
– Isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Tamil Nadu on May 18 and 19 and Kerala on May 19, 2024.
– Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next seven days.
– Isolated rainfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh from May 16 to 19 and Assam and Meghalaya from May 17 to 19, 2024.

Monsoon Predictions

– The Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, some parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands around May 19, 2024.
– This year, the southwest monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on May 31 with a model error of ± 4 days.
