IMD Predicts Heatwave in Several Parts of India, Orange Alert for Heavy Rains in North East

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of India will continue to experience heatwave conditions until May 7th. Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and interior Karnataka are expected to experience heatwave conditions on May 4th. On May 5th, the heatwave is expected to continue in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and interior Karnataka. Isolated pockets of Saurashtra, Kutch, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and North Interior Karnataka may also experience heatwave conditions on May 6th. On May 7th, isolated heatwave conditions are predicted in West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, and North Interior Karnataka.

IMD has also issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in North East India on May 5th and 6th. Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4mm) on May 5th, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4mm) on both May 5th and 6th. Assam and Meghalaya are also predicted to receive heavy rains (115.5-204.4mm) on May 5th and 6th.

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning has been predicted over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh from May 3rd to 5th. Similar weather conditions are expected in East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand from May 6th to 9th. Isolated to scattered, light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted over Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe from May 3rd to 8th, and over Telangana and Karnataka from May 6th to 8th. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala may experience isolated heavy rainfall on May 7th.
