The Indian government, in light of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, has issued a revised travel advisory for its citizens. This advisory, issued on Friday, urges Indian nationals traveling to either country to exercise vigilance and maintain communication with the Indian embassy. The advisory modifies a previous one issued on April 12, which advised against non-essential travel to Iran and Israel.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the situation in the region is being closely monitored and that both Iran and Israel have recently reopened their airspace. He advised Indian nationals to remain cautious while traveling in these countries and to stay connected with the Indian embassy.
An earlier advisory issued by the MEA on April 12 cautioned Indian nationals against visiting Iran and Israel, citing tensions between the two countries. The tensions escalated after an Israeli air strike targeted a building in the Iranian embassy complex in Damascus, killing seven individuals, including a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brig Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi. Iran responded by launching drone and missile attacks on Israel.
Meanwhile, Israel has confirmed the death of Dror Or, an Israeli man who had been held hostage in Gaza since the Hamas attack on October 7. His death marks another confirmed hostage death after the attack, which sparked a conflict between Israel and Hamas. Or’s body had been held in Palestinian territory since his capture. His wife had been killed in the initial attack, while two of their children were abducted and subsequently freed in November as part of a ceasefire and prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hamas. Israel estimates that around 129 captives remain in Gaza, with 35 confirmed dead, including Or.
