India and Singapore Strengthen Ties with Focus on Innovation and Semiconductors

India and Singapore are taking their strategic partnership to a new level, focusing on key areas of innovation and technological collaboration. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his visit to Singapore, met with Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, a pivotal figure in the country’s economic landscape, to discuss ways to strengthen their bilateral ties.

This meeting, which took place on Friday, underscores the shared vision of both nations to foster closer collaboration. Jaishankar, in a tweet, highlighted the key areas of focus, including industrial parks, green energy, skilling, innovation, and semiconductors. The shared interest in semiconductors is particularly significant, given its pivotal role in the future of technology.

Jaishankar’s visit to Singapore is part of a two-nation tour that also included Australia, emphasizing India’s strategic focus on the Indo-Pacific region. During his day-long visit in Singapore, Jaishankar will be addressing the 8th Roundtable of the ASEAN–India Network of Think Tanks, providing an opportunity to engage with regional experts and further strengthen ties. He will also be meeting with Singaporean leadership to review the existing partnership and explore avenues to further enhance their relationship.
