During his recent visit to Laos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the crucial importance of the India-ASEAN partnership, especially in the context of global conflicts and rising tensions. He introduced a comprehensive 10-point action plan aimed at strengthening the strategic alliance between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
At the 21st India-ASEAN Summit, PM Modi declared, “I believe the 21st century – the Asian century – is the century of India and ASEAN nations.” He underscored the shared values of peace and respect for national sovereignty that unite the two regions. “The India-ASEAN friendship, coordination dialogue, and cooperation are essential at a time when many parts of the world face conflicts and tensions,” he remarked.
After the summit, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his satisfaction with the fruitful discussions. He highlighted the emphasis on enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, deepening trade relations, fostering cultural exchanges, and boosting cooperation in technology, connectivity, and other vital sectors.
In alignment with the summit’s theme of ‘Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,’ PM Modi unveiled a 10-point plan to strengthen India’s ties with ASEAN. This plan includes a commitment of $5 million to improve disaster resilience and the creation of a new Health Ministers’ track to promote health resilience.
