The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, indicating the potential for heavy rainfall in three states: West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Northwest India:
The IMD predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next five days. Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall during the same period. Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are forecast to receive scattered rainfall.Heavy rainfall is predicted for Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until August 20, in Delhi on August 20, and in Uttar Pradesh until August 22. The national capital, Delhi, is expected to experience light wet spells until August 23, with generally cloudy skies and light rain. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius.
West and Central India:
The IMD’s latest press release dated July 16 forecasts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, and Chhattisgarh. Gujarat Region and Marathwada are predicted to see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, while Madhya Maharashtra and Saurashtra & Kutch are expected to experience isolated to scattered rainfall during the week.
East and Northeast India:
The IMD’s weather bulletin predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over east India and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the northeast during the week. Heavy precipitation is expected in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya between August 20 and 22; in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha until August 20; in Arunachal Pradesh on August 22; and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until August 22.
South Peninsular India:
The IMD anticipates heavy downpours in the southern peninsula over the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely in Tamil Nadu on August 18, in Lakshadweep until August 20, and in Karnataka over the coming two days.The IMD’s forecasts highlight the potential for significant rainfall across India, urging residents in affected areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
