India Braces for Severe Heatwave, North-East Anticipates Heavy Rainfall

Severe Heatwave Warning Issued for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert warning for severe heatwave conditions in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi on May 23rd. Forecasters predict that heatwave conditions will also prevail in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The warning remains in effect until May 27th for isolated pockets of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh; May 26th for Gujarat; May 25th for Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra; and the next three days for Uttar Pradesh.

Hot and Humid Conditions in Assam and Goa

Residents of Assam will endure hot and humid weather conditions until May 24th, while similar conditions are expected in Goa today. Warm night conditions will persist in Rajasthan until May 27th and in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh until May 25th.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast for North-Eastern States

In contrast to the heatwave conditions in the west and north, north-eastern states will experience scattered to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds for the next seven days. Heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from May 26th to 27th, with isolated very heavy rainfall on May 27th.

Heavy Showers in Southern States

The Met department predicts heavy showers for Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on May 24th, Andhra Pradesh on May 25th, and Kerala until May 25th. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in coastal districts of West Bengal and adjoining districts of North Odisha on May 26th and 27th.
