India Dominates Bangladesh in First Test, Solidifies Top Spot in WTC 2023-25

India’s dominance in Test cricket continued with a resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test of the series at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. The win not only secured a series lead for India but also cemented their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.

India’s impressive performance has earned them 86 points and a 71.67 PCT after 10 matches. This puts them firmly in the driver’s seat for a spot in the WTC final, scheduled for June 2025. Bangladesh, on the other hand, sits in sixth place with a 39.29 PCT.

The victory showcased India’s strength in both batting and bowling. The Indian bowlers, led by Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-wicket haul, kept Bangladesh’s batting in check throughout the match. In response, the Indian batsmen, led by a century from Rohit Sharma and fifties from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, piled on the runs to secure a comfortable win.

With this win, India has taken a significant step towards qualifying for the WTC final. However, the road ahead is still challenging. They have several tough Test series against Australia, England, and South Africa in the upcoming months, which will ultimately determine their fate in the championship.
