India Dominates Nepal in SAFF U-17 Championship Semifinal

The Indian men’s U-17 football team showcased their dominance in a thrilling semifinal clash against Nepal at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu on Saturday. The young Indian squad emerged victorious with a 4-2 scoreline, securing their spot in the final for the second consecutive year.

Midfielder Vishal Yadav was the star of the match, scoring a crucial brace that proved decisive for India. His first goal in the 61st minute came after a clever play. Sumit Sharma’s header was saved by the Nepal goalkeeper, but Vishal reacted quickly, slotting the rebound through the keeper’s legs to give India the lead.

Just minutes later, Vishal struck again, exhibiting remarkable composure and instinct. Following a free kick, Sumit Sharma’s header was once again saved, but Vishal pounced on the rebound, calmly placing the ball into the net to double India’s advantage.

Nepal, however, were not ready to give up. Against the run of play, Subash Bam found the back of the net in the 83rd minute, bringing his team back into the game.

India responded swiftly, restoring their two-goal cushion when substitute N. Rishi Singh added his name to the scoresheet. But Nepal refused to be silenced, immediately pulling a goal back thanks to an own goal from a corner kick.

The final nail in the coffin came in stoppage time when Hemneichung finished off a clinical move, sealing India’s victory and confirming their place in the final.

India, the defending champion, will now face either Pakistan or Bangladesh in the final. The outcome of the other semifinal will decide their opponent.
