India Holds Two-Point Lead at Chess Olympiad, Draws Against Uzbekistan

The Indian chess team held onto its two-point advantage in the Open section of the Chess Olympiad 2024, securing a draw against defending champion Uzbekistan in the ninth round. The action took place at the SYMA Sports and Conference Centre in Budapest, Hungary.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team, initially ranked No. 1, drew their match against the USA 2-2. This draw resulted in India slipping to second place in the Women’s section with 15 match points. Kazakhstan, on the other hand, claimed the top spot with 16 match points, leaving two rounds remaining in the competition.

In the Open section, the USA currently holds the second position, while Uzbekistan has dropped to third. The race for the top spots in both sections is tightening with two rounds remaining, promising exciting and competitive chess action.
