On Thursday, India celebrated National Sports Day with the launch of the Retired Sportspersons Empowerment Training (RESET) program by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. The day began with the minister paying tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand at the National Stadium.
The RESET program is designed to empower retired sportspersons who have represented India on the global stage. The program aims to equip these athletes with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful post-sports careers, making them more employable in a variety of fields. This initiative recognizes the valuable experience these athletes possess and seeks to channel it into nurturing future champions.
The RESET program is open to retired athletes aged 20 to 50, encompassing a wide range of experience levels, from local to international. The program will be implemented by the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education and will offer a comprehensive approach to skill development. Athletes will have access to a dedicated online portal for self-paced learning, complemented by on-ground training sessions and internships.
Minister Mandaviya urged all retired sportspersons to participate in the program, emphasizing the crucial role they can play in strengthening the sports ecosystem. He assured them of his full support in this endeavor. To further assist athletes in their post-sports careers, the program will also provide placement assistance and guidance for entrepreneurial ventures.
The RESET program is divided into two categories: athletes with educational qualifications up to the 10th standard and those with 12th standard or higher qualifications. This tailored approach ensures that the program caters to the diverse needs and aspirations of retired athletes.
With the launch of RESET, India takes a significant step towards ensuring that the contributions of its retired athletes are not forgotten. The program offers a platform for these individuals to utilize their experience and knowledge, fostering a dynamic and supportive sporting environment for the future generations.
