Stock Market Update:

India’s leading stock market indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, closed flat amidst mixed global signals. While the benchmarks remained stable, the midcap and smallcap segments continued to perform well despite concerns over their high valuations. The Nifty 50 opened at 24,839.40 compared to the previous close of 24,836.10, reaching an intraday high of 24,971.75 and a low of 24,798.65.

Tragic Landslide in Kerala:

Heavy rains in the Meppadi area of Kerala’s Wayanad triggered massive landslides, resulting in the deaths of nearly 100 people and injuring dozens. The landslides struck hilly areas in the early hours of Tuesday, primarily affecting those working on tea and cardamom estates. Many are believed to have been asleep in their temporary shelters when the disaster struck.

Delhi UPSC Aspirants’ Death:

A Magisterial Enquiry report submitted to Revenue Minister Atishi by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar revealed that Rau’s Study Circle, a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, violated several safety norms. This revelation comes in the wake of the tragic deaths of three civil services aspirants who drowned in a flooded basement.

FM Sitharaman Responds to Budget Debate:

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the Budget 2024-25 debate in Lok Sabha, refuting Opposition claims that the budget favored specific states. She asserted that no sector received reduced allocation and dismissed the allegations as misleading.

SEBI Cracks Down on F&O Trading:

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduced several measures aimed at preventing speculative trading in index derivatives. These include limiting multiple option contract expiries and increasing the size of options contracts. The seven measures collectively aim to curtail market speculation, enhance investor protection, and bolster market stability.

Paris Olympics: India Wins Bronze in Shooting:

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured India’s second bronze medal at the Paris Olympics by defeating South Korea in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the duo’s achievement, expressing pride in their accomplishment.

Tata Consumer Products Q1 Results:

Tata Consumer Products reported a 14.3 percent decline in its net profit for the April-June quarter of fiscal 2023-24, reaching ₹ 289.3 crore compared to ₹ 337.7 crore in the corresponding period last year. However, the company’s revenue from operations during the quarter increased by 16.3 percent to ₹ 4,352 crore, up from ₹ 3,741.2 crore in the same period last year.
