Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant announcement during his visit to the United States, pledging a grant of $7.5 million to support Quad nations in their battle against cervical cancer. The declaration came at the Cancer Moonshot event in Delaware, held on the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit. This generous contribution highlights India’s commitment to global health initiatives and its willingness to share its expertise in fighting this prevalent disease.
During his address at the event, PM Modi emphasized India’s vision of ‘One Earth One Health,’ underscoring the need for collaborative efforts in tackling global health challenges. He highlighted the strides India has made in combating cervical cancer, emphasizing that the country is prepared to share its knowledge and experience with the Quad and the world.
“Collaboration is essential for the cure,” stated PM Modi, emphasizing the importance of working together to find solutions for cancer. He elaborated on India’s proactive approach, mentioning the country’s successful, cost-effective cervical cancer screening program and the development of its own vaccine for the disease. Furthermore, India is leveraging Artificial Intelligence to introduce new treatment protocols, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and cutting-edge healthcare solutions.
“India is running the world’s largest health insurance scheme and special centers have also been set up to make medicines available to everyone at affordable cost. India has also developed its own vaccine for cervical cancer and new treatment protocols are also being introduced with the help of Artificial Intelligence,” PM Modi asserted.
Beyond the financial contribution, PM Modi also outlined India’s plan to cooperate in radiotherapy treatment and capacity building, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to supporting the Quad nations. He announced that India would contribute 40 million vaccine doses to the Indo-Pacific region through GAVI and QUAD initiatives, providing a ray of hope for millions of people.

The Cancer Moonshot initiative, launched by the White House, aims to accelerate progress in cancer research and treatment. The initiative involves a collaborative effort between the US government, public and private sectors, and numerous organizations, including private companies, non-profits, academic institutions, and patient groups. The initiative focuses on addressing five priority actions, including the development of new cancer treatments, early detection, and prevention strategies.
