India has secured its spot in both the men’s and women’s team archery events at the upcoming Paris Olympics. This confirmation came after the World Archery updated team rankings on Monday, placing India at the top among nations that had yet to qualify.
India’s qualification guarantees participation in all five medal events in Paris, including men’s and women’s team, individual, and mixed categories. In the men’s team event, India and China earned their spots, while Indonesia secured the second quota alongside India in the women’s division. A total of 12 teams will compete in both the men’s and women’s team events, while the mixed event will feature five teams.
The Olympic qualification process involved three legs, with the top two nations after each leg securing a spot. The first leg, held at the World Archery Championships in Berlin last year, saw South Korea, Turkey, and Japan qualify in the men’s category, while Germany and Mexico secured spots in the women’s division. The second leg, a continental qualifier, saw Kazakhstan and South Korea earn the men’s and women’s team quotas, respectively, from Asia, while Colombia and the United States qualified from Pan-America. The European leg saw Italy (men) and the Netherlands (women) secure their quotas.
The final Olympic qualifier took place in Antalya, Turkey, last week, with Mexico, Chinese Taipei, and Great Britain qualifying in the men’s section, and China, Malaysia, Great Britain, and Chinese Taipei qualifying in the women’s section.
For veteran archer Tarundeep Rai, this marks his fourth Olympic appearance, having made his debut in the 2004 Athens Games. Similarly, former World No. 1 Deepika Kumari will also compete in her fourth Olympics, with her first appearance being at London 2012. Dhiraj Bommadevara, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur will be making their Olympic debuts, while Pravin Jadhav will be competing in his second consecutive Games after Tokyo.
