India’s Paralympic contingent continued its strong performance at the Paris Paralympics on Friday, with Praveen Kumar securing a gold medal in the men’s high jump T64 event. This victory propelled India past its gold medal tally from the Tokyo Paralympics, where the nation had won five gold medals. Currently, India stands at a total of 26 medals – six gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze – at the ongoing Games in Paris.
While Praveen Kumar’s triumph was the highlight of Day 10, other Indian athletes also showcased their skills across various disciplines. In Para Cycling, Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya finished one lap behind the leader in the Men’s C1-3 Road Race and Women’s C1-3 Road Race, respectively.
In Para Canoe, Yash Kumar narrowly missed out on the final in the Men’s Kayak Single 200m – KL1 Semifinals, finishing fifth with a time of 1:02.03. However, Prachi Yadav secured a spot in the Women’s Va’a Single 200m – VL2 Finals, finishing third in the semifinals with a time of 1:05.66. Unfortunately, she finished eighth in the final, clocking 1:08.55.
In Para Swimming, Suyash Narayan Jadhav finished tenth in the Men’s 50m Butterfly – S7 Heats, with a time of 33.47, failing to qualify for the final.
Para Athletics saw Navdeep competing in the Men’s Javelin Throw – F41 Final, Simran in the Women’s 200m – T12 Final, and Dilip Mahadu Gavit in the Men’s 400m – T47 Final. The results of these events are yet to be reported.
As India continues to make its mark on the Paris Paralympics, the nation eagerly awaits more stellar performances from its athletes in the remaining events.
