India is set to make a bid for the 2030 Youth Olympics, a precursor to the country’s ambitious goal of hosting the 2036 Olympics. This announcement was made by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday during the Olympic Council of Asia’s (OCA) 44th General Assembly.
Mandaviya highlighted that India’s focus remains on securing the 2036 Olympics, but the 2030 Youth Olympics bid is a strategic step towards achieving that long-term vision. He emphasized the country’s dedication to sports development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting India’s successful hosting of numerous international sporting events, including cricket World Cups and the football U-17 World Cup.
The 2030 Youth Olympics will be the fifth edition of this global event, and India will be competing against several other nations, including Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the hosting rights.
This bid represents a significant milestone in India’s journey towards establishing itself as a prominent player in the international sporting arena. It underscores the country’s commitment to promoting sports, nurturing young athletes, and building world-class sporting infrastructure.
