India’s surfing team has made history by clinching the silver medal at the Maruhaba Cup, a prestigious team event within the Asian Surfing Championships 2024. The competition took place on the stunning Thulusdhoo island in the Maldives. This achievement is even more significant as it follows India’s groundbreaking success in securing its first-ever Asian Games quotas in surfing just a day prior.
The Maruhaba Cup brought together the region’s top surfers for a thrilling team competition. India showcased its exceptional talent, overcoming strong contenders to reach the finals. The Indian team, composed of Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, and Sanjay Selvamani, displayed outstanding teamwork and individual skill, securing first place in the Heat 2 semifinal with a total score of 32.16, leaving Chinese Taipei and South Korea behind.
In the final, India faced off against Asia’s best, ultimately securing the silver medal with a team score of 24.13. Despite a valiant effort, they were edged out by Japan, who won gold with a remarkable score of 58.40. Chinese Taipei and China finished third and fourth respectively.
