An Indian Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) carrying four aircrew members was forced to make an emergency landing at sea during a medical evacuation mission, according to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The incident occurred on September 2nd while the helicopter was approaching a vessel to evacuate an injured crew member.
The ALH, which had previously rescued 67 lives during recent cyclonic weather in Gujarat, was deployed at approximately 11 pm to assist the Indian-flagged Motor Tanker Hari Leela, located about 45 kilometers off the coast of Porbandar. The request for assistance came from the vessel’s captain.
Following the emergency landing, the wreckage of the helicopter was located. One crew member has been rescued, while search and rescue efforts continue for the remaining three missing crew members.
In response to the incident, the ICG has deployed four ships and two aircraft to participate in the search and rescue operation. This is an ongoing story, and further updates are expected.
