Indian golfers Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar, Shubhankar Sharma, and Gaganjeet Bhullar are all set to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics, aiming to make their mark on the global stage. Ashok, who has the most Olympic appearances among Indians, will be making her third appearance, while Dagar will be competing for the second time. Sharma and Bhullar, meanwhile, will be making their Olympic debuts.
Qualification for the Olympics is determined by rankings, with the top 60 men and women eligible through the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The top 15 players in the OWGR are eligible for the Olympics, with a maximum limit of four golfers allowed from a single country. The Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR) after the top 15 players consists of up to two top eligible players per country, as long as it does not have at least two golfers in the top 15.
Despite a modest 2024 season so far, Aditi remains in the top 50 of the women’s rankings, while Dagar has been in top form with three top-10 finishes in five starts on the Ladies European Tour. Among Indian men, Sharma has a best finish of tied-seventh at the Singapore Classic, while Bhullar won once at the Chandigarh Open on the Indian Tour.
With the Olympics approaching, these Indian golfers will look to continue their strong performances and secure their spots in the prestigious sporting event. They will be hoping to emulate the success of Aditi Ashok, who finished fourth in the Tokyo Games 2020, India’s best performance at the Olympics in golf. The Indian Golf Union is responsible for sending the Olympic entries, and the golfers will be eagerly awaiting their chance to represent their country on the world stage.
