Indian golfers made their presence felt across several international tournaments recently, achieving notable results while some narrowly missed out on victories.
Jyoti Randhawa had a commendable performance at the Legends Tour’s Swiss Senior Open, finishing tied seventh. Playing his rookie season on the Tour for golfers over 50 in Europe, Randhawa added a third-round 69 to his earlier scores of 66 and 69, securing a top-10 finish with a six-under total. Fellow Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, playing a roller-coaster final round, finished tied 20th.
Meanwhile, Shubhankar Sharma, warming up for the final Major of the season, finished T-39 at the Genesis Scottish Open. Sharma, who turns 28 on the final day of the 152nd Open, was 8-under through 17 holes and nearly inside the Top-10 when he triple-bogeyed the 18th, ultimately finishing with a 5-under 65 and a total of 8-under 282.
However, the most dramatic outcome came at Liv Golf Andalucia, where Anirban Lahiri, despite holding a four-shot lead, fell short of victory in a playoff against seasoned Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia. Lahiri, who was aiming to break his own nine-year winless streak, shot a two-over 73 on the final day, while Garcia, starting seven shots behind, carded a five-under 66, forcing a playoff. Garcia ultimately secured the win, earning his first victory after three previous playoff losses.
On the Senior Champions Tour in the United States, Arjun Atwal finished T-67 at the Kaulig Companies Championship, a Senior Major won by Ernie Els. Atwal had a challenging final round, finishing with a 7-over 77. Els, a winner of 19 PGA TOUR titles and a World Golf Hall of Fame inductee, secured his first Senior Major title, edging YE Yang by a shot. This victory marked Els’ sixth on PGA TOUR Champions and made him the first player to achieve three wins this season, placing him at No. 1 in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings.
