The Google Doodle today celebrated the spirit and determination of para-athletes, highlighting the Paralympics Games Paris 2024. The Doodle depicted sports players as birds and animals, showcasing the power and agility of these incredible athletes.
In a moment of pride for India, para-athlete Preeti Pal won a bronze medal in the 100m T35 event at the Paris Paralympics. Preeti clocked a personal best time of 14.21 seconds, securing third place in the race.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Preeti expressed her disbelief and joy, stating, “I am still not able to believe that I have won the bronze medal…I am feeling very proud, and I thank everyone for supporting and motivating me.” Her victory was celebrated by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), who shared a video of Preeti expressing her emotions.
The gold medal in the event was won by China’s Xia Zhou, who achieved a season-best time of 13.58 seconds. Qianqian Guo from China secured the silver medal with a personal best time of 13.74 seconds.
Preeti Pal’s journey to the Paralympics began with her impressive performance at the World Para Athletics Championship earlier this year. She won bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m events, securing her spot for the Paris Paralympics.
This year, India has sent its largest-ever contingent to the Paralympics, with 84 athletes participating across 12 sports. This reflects the country’s growing dedication to supporting para-sports. India aims to surpass its previous achievements in Tokyo, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to excellence in para-athletics.
