Indian pilgrims performing the Hajj pilgrimage can now enjoy a smoother and more efficient journey to Makkah thanks to the introduction of the Haramain High-Speed Train. This year, approximately 32,000 Indian Hajis will benefit from this high-speed rail service, a significant upgrade from the traditional bus transportation. This change has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Consulate General of India in Jeddah and Saudi authorities.
Previously, pilgrims relied on buses, which involved longer travel times and less comfort. The introduction of the high-speed train service, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, significantly cuts travel time in half, offering a more comfortable and efficient journey. This enhancement in pilgrimage logistics is expected to greatly improve the overall experience for the pilgrims.
The inaugural journey of this new service took place on May 26 and was attended by prominent officials including Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and Consul General Mohd Shahid Alam. These officials accompanied the first group of Indian pilgrims on the train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah, marking a historic event for both Indian and Saudi authorities. Ambassador Khan emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This is not just a first for Indian pilgrims but also for Saudi authorities transporting Hajis by train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah.” This development showcases the strong cooperation between the two countries in enhancing the pilgrimage experience for Indian Hajis.
This year, a total of 175,000 Indian Hajis are expected to make the pilgrimage. Of these, 140,000 will be facilitated by the Haj Committee of India, while the remaining pilgrims will travel through private tour operators. The introduction of the high-speed train service is a part of broader efforts to streamline the pilgrimage process and provide better services to the pilgrims. For tourists and travelers, this new arrangement underscores the importance of staying updated with travel logistics and being adaptable to new developments. The high-speed train not only ensures a quicker journey but also significantly enhances comfort, making the pilgrimage experience more pleasant and efficient.
