Indian Railways Introduces Economy Meals at Tiruchi, Thanjavur, and Mayiladuthurai Stations

To address the needs of passengers traveling in unreserved coaches amidst the summer rush and special train operations, the Indian Railways has commenced an economy meal service at three stations in Tiruchi Division: Tiruchi Junction, Thanjavur Junction, and Mayiladuthurai stations. Priced at just ₹20, this meal option caters to budget-conscious travelers.

For ₹20, passengers can choose between 200 grams of lemon rice, tamarind rice, curd rice, or dal khichdi, all served with pickle. Additionally, 200 ml of pure drinking water is available for ₹3.

The Railway Board has instructed all zones and IRCTC to ensure adequate availability of affordable meals and packaged drinking water for passengers in unreserved coaches. In compliance with this directive, the economy meal service has been implemented in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, and Mayiladuthurai stations.

To facilitate the service, a mobile stall has been set up at each station, while ample Rail Neer drinking water bottles are stocked to meet the summer rush demand.
