India’s dominance at the Asian Boxing Championships in Al Ain, UAE, was undeniable, with the nation securing a remarkable seven female titles. Leading the charge was Deepali Thapa, who etched her name in history as the first-ever schoolgirl to claim a championship title.
Thapa, competing in the 33kg category, showcased exceptional technique and control throughout the tournament. In the semifinals, she overcame Kazakhstan’s Anelya Ordabek, and in the final, she dominated Ukraine’s Liudmyla Vasylchenko, solidifying her position as a rising star in the sport.
Bhoomi continued India’s winning streak, claiming the 35kg title after a hard-fought victory against Kazakhstan’s Assel Jalimbekova. Nischal Sharma secured India’s third title in the 37kg category, displaying strategic brilliance and control in the final round against Ukraine’s Maria Matsiura. Rakhi further cemented India’s dominance, securing their fourth title in the 43kg class with a strong finish against Ukraine’s Veronika Holub.
While India’s Laxmi Manjunath Lamani fought valiantly in the 40kg final, she was ultimately defeated by Ukraine’s Oleksandra Cherevata, who capitalized on her height advantage.
Despite the single loss, India’s impressive performance at the Championships solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in women’s boxing.
