Shooter Sarabjot Singh, the first Indian medallist to return home from the ongoing Paris Olympics, was greeted with a warm welcome upon his arrival. His journey at the Games concluded with a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, where he partnered with Manu Bhaker. The duo secured their podium finish by defeating the South Korean pair of Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee 16-10 in the third-place playoff. This marked the second medal for India at the Paris Olympics, with Sarabjot making his Olympic debut in style. Manu, meanwhile, etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian, post-independence, to win two medals in the same edition of the Games. She had previously opened India’s medal account in Paris with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. India’s Olympic medal tally further increased with Swapnil Kusale’s bronze in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, making Paris the first Olympics where Indian shooters have secured three medals. While Manu still has one event, the 25m Pistol, remaining, Sarabjot’s journey at the Games concluded with the bronze medal. He returned to India on Thursday, where he was met with the rhythmic beats of the dhol and showered with garlands by eager fans. Later, he was formally felicitated by Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya at a celebratory event.
